GERD Diet

If you are suffering from GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) and you are looking for a permanent solution that works you have found the right site. I this blog I would like to share with you what helped me to get rid of all the symptoms for good in just 2 weeks of following the program.

Hello and welcome to my GERD diet blog. My name is Colin Ritchie and for most of my life I suffered from acid reflux and heartburns. I have tried many programs and finally I found one that really works. That’s why I decided to share my story with others so you too can be free from the unpleasant and sometimes very dangerous symptoms.

I suffered from GERD for 12 years of my life. The most common symptoms I had were heartburn, burning pain in my chest after eating and almost constant burping which as you can imagine was very embarrassing. I have tried every available prescription and over a counter medication on the market. I have tried various GERD diets, detox diets, blood type diet, Chinese Medicine and herbal remedies. As you probably know yourself nothing worked.

My doctor even told me that it was something that I would have to learn to live with. Don’t take me wrong. Some drugs worked but only for very short period of time – 2 hours top. Because of that I spent many sleepless nights waking up and taking medicines just to wake up again after a couple of hours. Not only I felt exhausted but also I knew I cannot use drugs forever. They all have their side effects on hour bodies which by the way is written on their boxes.

Fortunately I haven’t given up and searched for a solution. One day I came across on a site that offered quick but not instant solution. That was something different as most of the programs offer instant help and for this reason I decided to research it in more depth. I have been scammed before so I read reviews on forums and for my pleasant surprise this program has been recommended by quite a few people. I gave it a go and after following the program to the dot the heartburn was gone within 2 hours! What is even better the chest pain after meals was gone after 14 days into the program.

Acid Reflux Diet – The Principles

jadlomale Acid Reflux Diet The PrinciplesWelcome to acid reflux diet series. I will share in next posts foods that should be avoided and also some easy to make acid reflux diet meal plans. Feel free to look around and if you have any suggestions  leave a comment  :)

If you have found this blog and reading this than I assume that you are or have been suffering from acid reflux also called gerd.
I have suffered form acid reflux and heartburn for almost whole my life. I know exactly how it feels not to be able to sleep properly at nights. It was a case especially when I was not paying attention what I had to eat. Having that in mind and researching the problem I came up with a list of foods that usually trigger  acid reflux. Below you will find a list of foods that should be avoided and foods that should be consumed reasonably.

Lets start with foods that should be avoided at all cost in your acid reflux diet:

  • Alcohol (especially anything stronger than a beer)
  • Citrus fruits: lemon, grapefruit, orange; juices made from these fruits and lemonade
  • Some other fruits: cranberry, cranberry juice; tomato also  any meals prepared with them like salads, Italian meals sauces, pizzas
  • Vegetables: raw onion and raw garlic (if somebody fancy it)
  • High Fat foods. This group is very wide because anything that was deep fried (french fries, chicken nuggets, spicy chicken wings, doughnuts, regular potato chips), fried (steaks, other fried beef meals) or that contain high level of fat itself (bread and butter pudding, full 3,2% milk) usually triggers heartburn. Even salads that were prepared using cream or vegetable oil can cause acid reflux. Keep in mind that there are some exceptions which you can find below.
  • Dairy products (ice cream, milk shake, sour cream, regular cream, cottage cheese).
  • Some foods made from grain especially when combined with other forbidden foods like spaghetti with sauce and meat, macaroni cheese
  • Beverages:  coffee and tea
  • Chocolate or anything with chocolate in it (brownies, puddings and other desserts)

Please be aware that some of these foods might not cause any heartburn at all when consumed on their own however when mixed with others from that list you are heading for sleepless night. Also not all people react the same to these foods and you should know more less what you can eat.

This list wouldn’t be completed without foods that can be eaten in moderation but “overdosing” can lead to heartburn. These foods shouldn’t be a part of your daily acid reflux diet:

  • Low alcoholic drinks: beer (also non-alcoholic version)
  • Fruits and juices: grapes, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, peach, apple cider. Also orange juice but it needs to be low-acid one.
  • Vegetables: leek, cooked garlic and onion, sauerkraut
  • Meat hams, fried fish, tuna salad, hot dogs, chicken salad,
  • Eggs: fried and scrambled
  • Dairy products: low fat milk (some sources say that 2% milk is allowed but in my experience skimmed milk is the best), yougurt (especially low fat), low fat cheeses (mozzarella, cheddar, cottage cheese)
  • Grain made products: muffin (not chocolate), garlic bread.
  • Beverages: cola (be careful here, it’s easy to forget to drink it with moderation) and other carbonated (fizzy) drinks

Although I have included some low fat cheeses here as a possible acid reflux cause I would like to share something here. I used to have a thin slice of cheddar cheese to stop heartburn at night when I went wild with forbidden food and didn’t have any medicine at home. Some people advice drinking milk but from my experience it works only for 10-20 minutes and than the heartburn is even worse. Cheese on the other hand “dissolves” longer. Long enough to give me some sleep.

Please keep in mind that the above lists are not complete or exclusive. You might even discover that you can eat some foods form forbidden acid reflux diet list and nothing would happen. Or you can have a very bad experience with any food from second list. We are all different and react differently to different foods.

In the next posts I will include acid reflux diet meals. Stay tuned! icon smile Acid Reflux Diet The Principles

Heartburn Remedies – Discover The Solution

herbs small Heartburn Remedies Discover The SolutionHeartburn is a very unpleasant condition that affect millions of people around the globe.  I know first hand how it feels and how frustrating it can be to try different things and not be able to find the right remedy. There are hundreds of home remedies and over the counter medicines that are supposed to work. Unfortunately it’s not always the case. If you have had similar problem I have prepared a list of 10 heartburn remedies that work.

1. Chewing gum – It’s not a joke and it really works as one of my favorite heartburn remedies! Although you cannot do it while you are trying to fall asleep chewing gum if quite effective remedy. I didn’t understand why so I’ve done a research and found the explanation. Chewing gum stimulates saliva production which is stomach acid buffer. In addition when you chew you swallow more often which rinse the acids back to stomach.  Is really that simple icon smile Heartburn Remedies Discover The Solution

2. Dairy products? - Many people claim that drinking milk neutralizes heartburn. I have tested it and it works. However it works only for about 10 minutes and that the heartburn is even worse! Why?  Initially calcium from milk neutralizes the acid but nutrients such as fat stimulates the your stomach to produce more acid. To avoid that use fat free milk and don’t drink too much of it – 8 oz max.
On the contrary to the above I found that a slice of cheese works wonders. When I do not watch what I eat especially when I eat out with friends I have terrible heartburn when I go to bed. I have always been using a slice of cheese to get rid of it. How does it happens? I have no clue. Cheese is usually mentioned high on forbidden heartburn food list.

3.  Bananas! Yes, that’s right. Eat them fresh or dried and get rid of heartburn. Bananas have been proven to be natural anti acid elements for your stomach and they taste good compare to other remedies icon wink Heartburn Remedies Discover The Solution

4.  Baking Soda… – It is another natural anti acid substance and one of heartburn remedies recommended all over he place. You take it in liquid form by dissolving one teaspoon of it in half a cup of water. The mixture tastes… well, not the best but it neutralize stomach acid and temporary sooths heartburn. The problem with baking soda is that when you dissolving it in water carbon dioxide is released. Therefore after you drunk the mixture the gas causes burps which open esophageal sphincter which allows the acids to move up causing the heartburn.

5.  Apple Cider Vinegar. Here we go. Another not very pleasant taste. The good news is that really works and you can get this thing in form of tablets or capsules so you don’t have to drink and taste it!

6.  Chamomile Tea. This beverage works as well and tastes is very pleasant. In addition chamomile tea has been used by some to reduce stress. Cannot be better! icon smile Heartburn Remedies Discover The Solution

7.   Ginger. Good old ginger. And I’m not talking about the hair color. Believe it or not it has been used for ages to cure heartburn. It works in all the forms. You can eat it raw if you are desperate or you can simply add it to your food cooked. Also you can get ginger tea.

8.  Deglycyrrhizinated licorice. Or simply DGL.  It has been reported to work for heartburn although I personally have never tried that specific. Supposedly you can get it in form of  capsules that you  open and dissolve or tablets that you can chew. Be wary though. DO NOT use it if you have been  diagnosed or treated with hypertension (high blood pressure). Why? I have no idea. Ask your doctor. icon smile Heartburn Remedies Discover The Solution

9. Aloe Vera.  This juice is another one on my list that has been in use for centuries as a heartburn remedy and a natural one. Be wary again here. Do not drink the juice which has been prepared for external use!

10. Turmeric. This spice is he last but not least on my heartburn remedies list. It is commonly used as one of spices to prepare carry. If you are not fun of it you can get it in form of capsules that you take before your meal.
